Living Hope History

Living Hope Community Church is thriving Christian congregation in Old Greenwich, CT of about 155 members and regular attenders of all ages, who love Jesus and who are seeking to live in a way that pleases God.

Our worship style is relaxed, contemporary and upbeat. Our life together is fueled by a deep belief in prayer, and the power of God’s Spirit to touch lives and bring healing and wholeness.

As a church family we are anchored to the Bible, which we believe is God’s infallible Word. Our passion is to share Jesus and the power of his resurrection!

Founded in 1894

Living Hope Community Church stands on a strong foundation of faith dating back to 1894. The church was originally incorporated as Congregational Church of Sound Beach, and its first permanent building was the small white church next to Old Greenwich Elementary School.

Became PCOG in 1956

In September of 1956, the church reorganized as the Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich (PCOG). The growing church moved to our present location on March 6, 1969 – hence our phone number “3669”. Seeking to be good stewards of the resources God entrusted to them, the church leadership chose to build the new church in phases, starting with a chapel and large multi-purpose sanctuary/hall. We still worship in this much-loved, admittedly unique, building every Sunday.

  • Meaning Behind the Cross

The church is recognized in the community for its signature cross out front and for the many community traditions we all know and love. The interior of the sanctuary/hall features a second signature cross which was referred to by John Fischer in his book On a Hill Too Far Away because of its central location between the preacher and the congregation. The cross reminds us that whoever is standing on the stage - whether a pastor or worship leader - is fit to stand there only because of the saving work Jesus Christ accomplished when he died on the cross for our sins. We are not perfect people, but we are cleansed by the blood of Christ and used by God to accomplish his good purposes in the world.

  • Became Living Hope Community Church in 2017

In 2017, the church leadership and congregation as a whole voted to change the church name to Living Hope Community Church, in response to the leading that God is doing a new thing in our church. We hope you will notice the presence of the Holy Spirit at work in our church family, and that you will encounter the living hope of Jesus Christ every time you walk through these doors. It is so exciting to know that God is still writing the Living Hope Community Church story. We hope God's work in your life will be part of it!

We are continually amazed at how God's plan
for Living Hope Community Church exceeds our expectations
